I am sorry to gloat but while it was 33C in Perth it was 24C in Margaret River today. The climbing conditions at Wyliabrup could not be more perfect and I was there with Rob "Escalade" Wall to take advantage of this. Not only has this bloke been climbing for 26 years but he still absolutely kicks ass.
We decided to go for endurance instead of projects. In 7 hours we climbed 10 routes and 12 pitches, graded from 14 to 23. The easiest routes we soloed - Rob did Fat Crack (15) and I did Hope (14), in what was probably my best experience of the day. I have done Hope ropeless before but it was quite a miserable nervous experience. This time I did not raise my pulse and loved every foot of it, which is the proper style for this kind of thing I recon.
Only the last two climbs stretched us: Rob huffed a bit on Mobjob (21) and I huffed a lot seconding Rape & Pillage (23). Kudos to Rob who onsighted it in great style! I onsighted it years ago and RP'd again in 2008.....will have to do some more repeats as this route deserves doing!! ...... but would generally want to be a lot fresher than having 10 pitches already in me...
Back in Perth at 7pm, wasted. What a super day!
