Early bird may well get the worm but early climber gets the cool weather. So at 6:30am me and Mark were off on our first Statham Quarry warmup, the slabby Blah, Blah Blah (16). We then took 20 Easy Steps (17) and just as it threatened to rain I embarked on Short Circuit Direct (18). Sure enough just near the top and at 8am it did start to rain and this resulted in a brief interlude. Hamish and Chris rocked up and appeared not concerned about the weather. After things dried up we were on Czechmate (22) and then I took an opportunistic ride on a toprope to the top of my Agent de France (23) a climb that has been "evolving" as bits of it have been falling off. The crux is still the same but the loose "stalactite" at the bottom is now on the ground. Yay. More things are likely to fall off soon. The short'n'sweet Chain Reaction (22) then closed out the day. This was a perfect time to break the beers out of the esky and have one for the road. What a perfect morning, the weather could not have been better really...except for the 20 min when it was wet but hey, why be picky?
