We have had something of a spate of dodgy bolting here in Western Australia in the last few years, so I put together some words to try and give a bit of guidance to those contemplating taking up the rewards and personal growth opportunities of bolting-jitsu LINK HERE. Yep, I'm talking about first spending $1000s of your own money and being bombarded by dirt, then rewarded by whinging about routes, glue, bolt spacing, type, location and the like. Luckily there is praise too, when I get it right. Years of fun.
I've bolted some 200 climbs over the last 20 years, 100 around Perth and 100 elsewhere, from Kalbarri to the Sultanate of Oman, and learned much along the way. 1000 bolts later, it seems to be a good time to give something back. I'm not perfect and have had the odd "oops moment", but 20 years ago there was no web, little info, and the whole dang thang was a dark art. Those excuses no longer exist!!
